Wind history
A blustery day is defined by variation. Switch to Direction to see every approved bearing and its circular mean—without a false line jumping between 359° and 1°.
What it means
Exposure varies between Whitley Lake, Sandbanks, the harbour entrance and sheltered water. The same number can feel very different at different launch points.
Local wind guide
Poole Harbour Commissioners designate Whitley Lake as a board-sailing area. It is shallow and can dry at low water, so wind is only one part of the picture. Check tide, local restrictions and harbour guidance.
Open-coast exposure, the harbour mouth, tide and shipping can create a very different environment from sheltered water farther inside the harbour. Never treat a pooled weather reading as a replacement for looking at the water where you intend to launch.
Contributing stations do not all update at exactly the same instant. The Dorset Live Weather engine monitors each source, learns its cadence and publishes a current pool view from available approved fields. That gives a stronger local picture and provides resilience if one source pauses.
